In yesterday’s post on
Tips to Save Cash we discussed how to save money by cutting your cable bill. Today I am going to talk about saving money by budgeting. Every one can benefit from a little bit of budgeting. The sites I am going to talk about today are web services that do a lot of the work for you. They help you categorize your income and your bills. They let you link bank accounts and have calander features.
BudgetTracker is the service I personally use. I am not paid in any way to endorse this site, this is just my personal favorite. You can set up a free account which allows the same features as a paid account but you’re limited on how many reminders you can link to your calendar and how many bank accounts you can include. This site is very very thorough. They have sections for tracking your account, to track your spending, to schedule income, to create a budget, custom calendar, business management, to organize your life, forecast your income, and even graphs and charts. You can sync your by downloading them from your bank or you can enter them manually. After investing some time into this site you will have a set budget plan that if you follow you will save money and the $2.95 a month is a simple investment if you want to use the unlimited version.
Mint is another great site that will help you manage your income. They have a lot of the same features that BudgetTracker has and they have an application for your smartphone of choice. The application uses a passcode to ensure safety and it syncs with your online account. You must first set up the account on the computer and with the free app linking the two is a piece of cake. I like mint for its diversity and it has gained the Android Market Editor’s Choice and Top Developer Award. Mint is free and it is one of the largest used budgeting tools out there.
BudgetPulse is another free budgeting site that has features you can use to import your bank statements and spreadsheets. It is a top favorite amongst many because it does not link to your financial accounts making it a secure place to track your budget. They are in beta and to sign up is free. Once they have released a non-beta version it is speculated they may charge for new accounts but that is only speculation. BudgetPulse has a feature for Saving Goals. This helps you plan a big event like college or a wedding or even a baby. It is a perfect tool for an expecting family.
No matter what tool you use to create a budget it is most important the you have a budget in order. Some people think because you have a plan on saving money and they put a couple hundred dollars into a savings account that they are good budgeters. They very well may be, but the services these listed sites have to offer are something that should not be over looked. They help you to save money by looking at your income in a different way. Give one a try and tell me which one you like.
